The shades

Pendant shades blown to order in the hot shop, in three forms. Each comes plain, ribbed, or ribbed with a quarter twist, in five colors, fire-polished or acid-etched.

  • A ribbed bell shade, lit, over the bench.

Optics

Plain
Smooth walls. The lamp throws one soft ring on the ceiling.
Rib
Eighteen ribs from an optic mould. They throw eighteen straight lines across the ceiling.
Twisted rib
The same ribs given a quarter turn while hot. The lines on the ceiling turn into a spiral. Not made on the Drop.

Colors

Clear, smoke, amber, sea green and cobalt. A color is deepest where the glass is thickest, at the crown, and palest at the lip.

Finishes

Fire-polished glass stays clear and bends what is behind it. Acid-etched glass is frosted and glows evenly when the lamp is on.

Example prices, shade only: Bell $540, Dome $620, Drop $460. Rib adds $60 and twisted rib $110. Smoke, amber or sea green adds $40, cobalt $70. Acid-etched adds $50.

Example lead time: about 5 to 6 weeks for a clear shade, a week more for a color, a week more for an etched finish.
